May be my European ass but i believe in self determination of people. Stuff that happens on foreign soil must be dealt by local authorities. Only if the country ask for foreign/international help (eg afghan government in the 80s that asked for USSR support) is morally acceptable to get involved. 

If this conditions are not respected the military operations are mere imperialism, made to increase the power of the imperialistic nation at the price of several lifes and most usually a worsening of life conditions.

As for the strikes on boats on international waters that's plain illegal. The US as the other democratic countries lf the world must respect the habeas corpus and the principle that everyone is innocent untill proven guilt (like they say in the constitution). Pre-emptive strikes on boats that allegedly trafic drugs are unlawful and should be condemned by the UN and the international court of justice.

Answer: It appears like the Trump administration is looking to start a war. They've been threatening Venezuela for months and have made major steps like moving B-52 bombers and warships off the Venezuelan coast and engaging in military actions against a "drug smuggling ship".

The current government of Venezuela is incredibly corrupt and blatantly ignored the results of the last election to stay in power. Millions of Venezuelans have left the country over the last number of years because of how terrible the situation is there.

Another nugget to keep in mind is that the Venezuelan government has been threatening neighboring Guyana with invasion over the past number of months, claiming that virtually all of its territory should be theirs. Were Venezuela to follow through on an invasion, it would make it very likely that the U.S. would get involved.

Long answer: Venezuela has an estimated massive reserve of oil that could make them literally the top producer in the world if they ever developed their oil infrastructure at that scale. A few decades ago, Hugo Chavez took power and nationalized the oil industry,  angering the oil corporations and their investors, who got booted out of Venezuela. Since then, the US has been doing everything they can (Cia coups, destabilizing,  propaganda) to oust any leader who supports nationalized oil (Chavez,  and now Marduro).

The latest attempts are a bit unprecedented and are designed to goad Venezuela into a war with the US (which they would lose), so the US can regime change and install a head of state to privatize the oil industry.

Even longer answer is the US has always had an imperialist/colonizing and interventionist attitude towards South America,  subjugating and bullying them to our will.

Answer: On the surface it's just saber rattling, blowing up drug smuggling boats to make Trump look tough on the War on Drugs even though this won't even make a dent. Underneath though it's part of a disturbing trend that the US may be preparing to invade.

Trump has been ordering attacks on various boats off the coast of Venezuela under the guise that they are targeting drug trafficking. Since the start of his second term Trump has been making rather bold claims that his actions are meant to slow the flow of drugs, particularly fentanyl, to the US. Fentanyl has been a go-to excuse for targeting illegal immigration, tariffs, and now blowing up civilian vessels with the US Navy.

These attacks are illegal and likely have been targeting innocent civilian vessels. The recent resignation of high-level US Navy personnel is likely because those officers know full well these are illegal orders and are resigning in protest rather than committing war crimes.

This is also very bad because Trump will just replace staff officers that resign with loyalists, as he values loyalty more than competence. This will likely lead to a significant brain-drain in the US armed forces replacing top-level officers with less competent yes-men. Imagine an entire group of Pete Hekseths running the US armed forces.

The current concern is that the Trump team is setting up for an invasion and regime change of Venezuela that will be sold to the American people as part of the War on Drugs. While the President can't declare war without Congressional approval, that's never stopped the President from bombing other countries before.

They may very well be blowing up these boats to try to provoke a response from Venezuela that can be turned into a modern Gulf of Tonkin incident. (If you are not familiar this was a false flag operation, basically a faked or grossly exaggerated attack on a US Navy vessel, that was used as the excuse to start the Vietnam War)

Trump has also declared various national emergencies by Executive Order to help justify his actions and to allow him to operate unilaterally, namely without the approval of Congress. Although these have yet to be seen by the Supreme Court and law scholars all seem to agree that their legality, and therefore Trump's actions are likely unconstitutional. However since the Supreme Court is stacked with his own appointees it seems likely that he will get away with it.

Congress is also out of session right now, so if the President were to act unilaterally and order the military to attack right now the political body would have a hard time reacting and may be forced into a position where they have to capitulate and authorize the Presidents actions after the fact. Once boots are already on the ground, ordering a stop to such an invasion and say "oops our bad" wouldn't go over so well.

All of this seems to be continuing to slide the US towards authoritarianism. Trump has been acting like the all powerful CEO of a company rather than an elected President and has been very vocal about wanting to run for President again in 2028, even if that is illegal, and has openly said there are ways he can do that. The most obvious one being if the US is at war.

The irony being that Trump has branded himself as "the peace President" because he's so desperate to get a Noble Peace Prize to one-up Obama. Meanwhile he's been actively bombing Iran and Venezuela and threatening the likes of Greenland and Canada with annexation.

Trump has declared war on US cities to prime the US people towards the idea of martial law, and now seems to be lining up a war in Venezuela. If the US is actively at war in 2028 it's possible that the Republicans may use that as an excuse to cancel the Presidential election and keep Trump in power.

It is notable that the US has NEVER cancelled a US Presidential election, even during the Civil War.

It's also notable that Venezuela has a very large crude oil supply and Trump has been very strong about his policy of 'drill baby drill' to make the US energy independent.  Furthermore the Heritage Foundation, the organization responsible for Project 2025, was also the organization put in charge of the reconstruction of Iraq... and the ensuing disaster.

It's also becoming increasingly clear that many of the current regimes policies are being written by Stephen Miller, a member of the Heritage Foundation, with Donald Trump just rubber stamping a lot of the stuff that comes across his desk.

Trump, for all his bluster, is fundamentally a big idiot and it's become clear in recent interviews and press conferences that he's woefully uninformed about what's going on within his own government. He's been perfectly happy to offload responsibilities to his key people who can do whatever they want so long as the continue to blow smoke up his ass and protect his fragile image in public.

Trump for all his tough guy and I won't listen to any advice persona has actually proven to be incredibly easy to manipulate. So long as you sing his praises and put money in his pocket Trump will do whatever you want.

The Russians, Israelis, Qatari's have figured this out and have been playing him for some time now. To a degree Mark Carney in Canada, and Keir Starmer of Britan have also figured out what buttons to push to get him to do what they want, but the Canadians and British have a harder time because they can't openly bribe him due to the political repercussions. (It's notable that every time they meet Trump his bluster about tariffs calms down a fair amount, and the trade deal he signed with Britain is incredible one-sided in Britain's favor even if on the surface it looks like a win for Trump)

The Israeli's meanwhile have blown so much smoke up Trump's ass recently with the peace deal that the next time they beg him to bomb someone he'll be happy to do it. The peace deal Trump brokered is the exact same language Biden setup last year, the difference now is that the Israeli's are done, they've gotten everything they wanted in Gaza and are happy to give the credit to Trump so they have him in their pocket.

More importantly the key people in Trump's own administration figured this out years ago and know what buttons to push to get him to sign whatever EO they want. But it's a dangerous game because he's notoriously unstable and prone to random fits of anger. If he feels threatened Trump attacks, fires people and uses every tool at his disposal to get revenge because of his incredibly vindictive personality. It's also possible that many of his recent attacks on the likes of Leticia James, James Comey, or John Bolton are setup by others, insiders stirring up the pot to deflect Trump's anger to another target.

This of course all assumes that Trump doesn't stroke out or otherwise die before 2028.

Answer: they want to remove Maduro, install Machado, get access to an oil price lever to combat price shocks and OPEC supply shocks, get access to rare earth minerals (not as important here), and enforce the Monroe doctrine.  

Maybe they will try to stipulate that Venezuelan oil  must be purchased and transacted in US dollars. This helps combat the growing backing of the yuan by oil and the rest of the BRICS energy bloc. Nothing real. It's just for the cameras, a staging of what Trump or any US administration does. Venezuela is essentially an oil country and it is enough to review the oil production notes, they have just increased close to the historical level with direct investment from American companies, if there were a real conflict, a blockade would be imposed as happened with Iraq and other countries.
